Don’t be a victim of Timeshare Resale scams. If you’ve been contacted by a company offering to sell or rent your timeshare, use caution, especially if there is an advance fee. You should have a timeshare attorney verify that the promises are in the timeshare resale contract. Many timeshare resale companies claim to have ready buyers; imply they are representing investors or corporations; or make hotel presentations. However, most timeshare resale companies will, at most, offer to advertise your timeshare or worse, take your money and do nothing to sell your timeshare. Unfortunately, many timeshares have little or no value in that secondary market. If you’re contacted by a timeshare marketing company or timeshare listing service, don’t allow the caller to pressure you into making a hurried decision. Request that the timeshare company provide their promises in writing and then seek independent legal counsel to review with you what they really promise. Protect yourself! Many timeshare owners wish they would have consulted an attorney before purchasing their timeshare, don’t make the same mistake now and spend up to $2,000 or more to sell your timeshare, based on worthless or no guarantee that your unit will be sold or rented.
