Don’t be a victim of Timeshare scams. If you’ve been contacted by a company offering to sell or rent your timeshare, use caution, especially if an advance fee is involved. While these companies claim to have ready buyers or renters, imply they are representing foreign investors; or that corporations are interested, most are just offering to advertise your timeshare or worse, yet, get money from you and run. Many timeshares have little or no value in that secondary market. If you’re contacted by a marketing service, don’t allow the caller to pressure you into making a hurried decision. Request detailed information about the company’s services, find out where they currently advertise and ask them to provide access to a list of recently sold timeshares with actual dates of sale. Fees for timeshare listing services can range from $29.99 a month to $2000 with little or worthless guarantees that your unit will be sold or rented. Look for BBB accredited timeshare resale/advertising companies in one of the most stringent BBB accreditation locations, Central Florida Better Business Bureau (407.621.3300), located in the heart of the timeshare industry. Don’t rely on BBB accreditation from a less stringent BBB office than the Central Florida Better Business Bureau.
